Barn owl pellet dissection workshop (Oct 4th 6pm)

Looking for a fun science activity? Dissect barn owl pellets with us! Owls are unable to digest
the bones and fur/feathers of their prey, so it all forms into a compacted pellet that the owl
regurgitates. In these pellets, a variety of animal byproducts can be found– bones of rodents
and birds, and even the remains of frogs or insects. Each student will pick out two large pellets for dissection and we will all work together to identify our finds. Some of us may even find full skulls!
Kits will be used during class that contain PPE such as nitrile gloves and face masks, since this can be a dusty activity. Children are welcome but we have limited space in the workshop area for chaperones– please arrive early if you are a parent accompanying your child!
